It’s normal for the system to show an ‘H’ (99+ Humidity) instead of a number (0-99) for a few days upon setup or placing new cakes into the system. In testing, high humidity is good for yields– you can still do some misting with a spray bottle if it is convenient (avoiding the sensor).
The red LED is active when the mister is receiving power. It should only be lit next to the small ‘H’ on the left side of display. If it is ever lit next to the ‘D’, the settings have been changed to ‘opposite mode’ and you will need to do a factory reset.
Yes, it is always pushing fresh air through the system. It can be hard to see and you may have to touch it to tell. If it is not spinning contact us for diagnosis/replacement.
When the mister is active, you should see 1) A red LED lit next to the small ‘H’ on the left side of the controller 2) The black ultrasonic mister in the humidifier will be flashing multiple colors [if it is only flashing RED.. see bottom of second page] 3) Water level should be 1-1.5” above the top of the ultrasonic mister (too high will impair function).
Generally, no. They heat the cakes more efficiently (conduction) than the surrounding air (convection). This causes a vapor pressure differential that can dry the cakes-- picture a lake steaming in the early morning. They also tend to get too hot even with thermostats. If one must be used, it is best to raise the totes above the mat 1” to allow airflow. You may also want to consider using moistened perlite in the bottom of the fruiting totes to help offset the moisture loss. It is preferable to heat the environment (room) if needed with home heating or a space heater. In general, room temperatures will work fine (67F-77F) with the cooler end slowing things down to some degree.
Yes. In the event that we are not currently experiencing any supply shortages, we are able to make custom orders. However, these orders may take a few weeks to complete.
Yes. Please make this known at check out and we can set up a time to meet.
The most common cause of this is water without mineral content-- distilled or reverse osmosis. If so, try tap water and see if that helps.
The jars are made to order. We recommend inoculation within a few weeks of receiving them as fresher is better. We batch test them out much further but recommend as quickly as possible. They do tend to loose moisture content over long periods.
The system runs on a 24 hour lighting cycle based on testing we did showing no difference in growth rates or final mass (between 12/12, 8/16 and 24 hour cycles).
Unfortunately, we do not sell any spores or cultures. You will need (1) syringe for 12 jars. (2) if you want some leeway.
